ARTIST STATEMENT
My work focuses on masculinity and the way in which in manifests itself in contemporary society. As an artist. I continually strive to develop paintings that communicate both with myself and with others about society’s perceptions of men and masculinity. It is my aim to create pieces of art which challenge the viewer to question their own views of contemporary culture and gender in particular.
My process involves the application of feminist theory to a subject matter, which can cover a number of diverse topics ranging from beard grooming to science fiction and highlighting the performative elements of the masculine portrayal. By doing so I hope to highlight the fluidity of both masculinity and of gender itself.
